Staffing Manager
A Human Resources Department (HRD) consists of various roles that deal directly with workforce organizational processes. A Staffing Manager, is a HR professional whose basic role is to make sure that a company has the required number of talented and qualified staff to be productive. Because the success of a company is dependent upon such, the staffing manager's role is a vital component of the organization, especially on a competitive level. Companies thrive on having an edge, and having the best employees can give a company the boost it needs to rise above the competition.
Having quality employees is dependent upon the efficiency of the staffing manager. The specific duties of the staffing manager entail being responsible for all aspects of a company's staffing needs such as: recruiting, training, administrative duties, employee retention and even, sometimes, firing.
Recruiting Staffing managers use the identical procedures to hire as professional recruiters do. The difference is they work for one company versus being hired by several. Staffing managers seek out new talent, accept applications, screen the applications, interview candidates and hire the finalists. Staffing managers may also schedule and conduct college recruiting sessions or serve as a presenter at local job fairs. This is a continuous process and must be handled precisely.
Training Staff that are hired, often need to be educated on company policies and procedures and given the knowledge necessary to enhance their work performance. The staffing manager regularly schedules and posts available training opportunities and provides necessary training material.
Employee Retention In order to retain employees, steps should be taken to improve the corporate culture through determining employee satisfaction strategies. The staffing manager works to develop incentives and finds out how to best keep employees engaged and satisfied.
Administrative Duties Effective job performance requires knowledge of expectations. This begins with having information on hand to provide to new and promoted staff. The staffing manager is responsible for writing and developing job descriptions, completing hiring paperwork, recordkeeping for new hires and training materials. These and other administrative duties are essential to the success of the company.
Firing When employees are not a good fit for the organization or are terminated for disciplinary reasons, the staffing manager is responsible for this task. Caution in procedures should be ensured to avoid breach of compliance regulations.
One route to becoming a staffing manager is to obtain a bachelor's degree in business administration or human resources. Another option, is to first serve as a recruiter and later transitioning to a staffing manager role within an organization. No matter the method, staffing managers should be competent in various areas such as communication (written and oral), public speaking, conflict resolution, negotiating, training and have strong computer skills.
A job as a staffing manager is a popular and secure career that will always be a vital in contributing to the overall success and mission of an organization.
